Who are Game Therapy UK?
Game Therapy UK are an exciting new registered charity providing innovative, evidence-based therapeutic games (“Dungeons and Dragons Therapy”) to groups at risk of social isolation.
This includes a wide range of groups such as:
-
young people and adults experiencing homelessness,
-
neurodivergent young people and adults,
-
people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction
-
survivors of modern day slavery,
-
young people with chronic disease,
-
young people and adults with Special Educational Needs,
-
and military veterans with common mental health disorders and/ or psychological trauma/ PTSD.
With new projects in development for next year.

What is Game Therapy?
Game therapy is similar to Drama Therapy in that players can act out scenarios in a safe, controlled, psychologically informed environment to facilitate creativity, imagination, learning, insight, and growth.
However, it differs from traditional Drama Therapy in that it uses collaborative Table Top Role Playing Games (TTRPGs), such as 'Dungeons & Dragons’ type games or video games, to intentionally achieve these therapeutic goals.
And you get to play a game. So it's fun.

Our charitable objectives.
Game Therapy UK has three charitable objectives.
Deliver therapeutic gaming projects:-
To provide free, evidence-based, therapeutic gaming projects to support vulnerable groups and communities. We do this by running and supporting therapeutic gaming projects around the UK.
Deliver and support research:-
To support, and freely disseminate, research into the evidence-base of therapeutic gaming. We do this by working with multiple University departments to support innovative research projects into all aspects of therapeutic gaming. We also oversee the British Journal of Therapeutic Gaming and host the British Academic Conference of Therapeutic Gaming.
Deliver education and training:-
To support the education in evidence-based, best practice of therapeutic gaming. We do this by offering training in evidence-based therapeutic gaming.

How can you support Game Therapy UK?
Game therapy UK is charity that relies heavily upon, and hugely values, our volunteers. These volunteers include clinicians, clinical psycholgists, therapists, educators, support workers and of course gamers! If you would like to learn more about volunteering please drop us a line and let us know your area of interest, any skills you may have, and your location.
Game Therapy UK has very few central, administrative costs (as it's run by volunteers) and the vast majority of our funding goes directly into supporting the therapeutic gaming projects. However, we are always hugely grateful for individuals donations, be it financial or miniature figures and dice etc. Remember, we are a registered charity and therefore your donations are tax free.
